Japan Ski Toursという海外の方向けに、
日本のスキー場やバックカントリーツアーを提案している旅行会社で、
その企画の中に八甲田山のバックカントリーが含まれており、
今シーズンから知志親方がガイドを担当しています。
2月17、18日の二日間ご参加いただいた皆さんは、ニュージーランドからお越しいただき、
何とメンバーのご職業が全員お医者さんだそうです！
同じ病院の社員旅行ということで、日本にもある文化がニュージーランドにもあるんだと、
ちょっとほっこりしました。
2日間、少し気温が上がってしまい、ディープパウダーを楽しむことはできませんでしたが、
晴れ間も覗く、比較的良いお天気に恵まれ山頂からの景色もバッチリでした。
しかし、いつもなら感情豊かな海外の皆様ですが、今回はあまり参加者同士の会話も少なく、
黙々と歩いていたり、滑ってもあまり歓喜が湧かなく、
楽しんでもらえているか確信が持てず、知志親方と二人で疑心暗鬼でいましたが、
ツアーに同行している、元酸ヶ湯温泉のガイドで三味線演奏者のガイドが、
「人生で一番良いコンディションの雪を滑ったと喜んでいたよ」と言っていたと教えてもらい、
逆に、こんなコンディションで喜んでもらえた事に、奇跡を感じた瞬間でした。。。
また八甲田山に来た時は、もっと極上のパウダーを滑らせて、
「アメージング！」と感情豊かに喜んでもらうのがみたいなぁ。

There is a travel agency called Japan Ski Tours that offers ski and backcountry tours of Japan for overseas visitors.
One of the company’s travel plans includes backcountry skiing in Hakkoda.
Satoshi has been in charge of backcountry guiding since this season.
The participants on February 17 and 18 came from New Zealand, and to our surprise, all of them are doctors!
It was a little heartwarming to know that New Zealand has the same culture of company trips that we have in Japan.
The weather was relatively fine, with some sunny intervals, and the view from the top of the mountain was perfect, although we were not able to enjoy the deep powder due to the slightly warmer temperatures during the two days.
Usually, overseas participants are very emotional, but this time there wasn’t much conversation among them. They seemed to be walking in silence and not expressing much enthusiasm even when skiing, which made us unsure if they were enjoying themselves. We were a little worried.
However, our tour guide, a former Sukayu Onsen guide and shamisen player, told us that one of the participants had told him that he had skied the best snow conditions in his life and that he was very happy. We were delighted that they were happy with such conditions.
We hope that when they come back to Mt. Hakkoda again someday, they will experience even better powder and exclaim joyfully, “Amazing!” with full of emotions.
